The advantage of the Cub is that it has a cargo bed so
you can fit a lot of luggage in it!
I’d like to attach a large box to the rear carrier (luggage rack) so that I can easily put luggage in it!
Purchase BOX
For the box, I could have just used a container sold at a home improvement store, but I decided to buy a proper rear box because it needed to have a lock, be okay if it got wet in the rain, and be reasonably large!
After it arrived, I immediately put it on the carrier!
This is how it will be installed.
BOX installation
Now, let’s get started on the installation!
Before that,
Because it’s brand new, there are no screw holes in the bottom of the box.
(I think the holes are drilled to fit each bike.)
First, decide where to drill the holes.
Check hole drilling position
It may be hard to see because of the elastic band, but I would like to place it in a position similar to this.
The screws and hardware are included in the box and are only placed on top for confirmation.
The correct installation is from underneath the bed.
Once the position is decided, place the box on top and mark the screw holes from underneath.
Screw hole drilling
I don’t have any power tools, so I’ll use a drill bit to make holes.
Anything will do as long as it can make holes!
The screws won’t fit into the small holes in the drill, so you’ll need to use a file to make the holes larger.
It is now large enough to fit a screw.
Drill 4 holes!
Mounting on the bike
Once the screw holes are drilled, all you have to do is secure it to the cargo bed.
Place the bracket under the bed and secure it with screws (phillips head screws, hexagonal nuts).
done!!
Test Drive
Take a test drive now!
I think the box is vibrating a little bit due to the vibration of the bike, but that’s just how it is.
If you sit too deep in the chair or slouch, you will hit the box.
It’s fine if you just sit with good posture, but it might have been better to sit a little further back.
I’ll see how it goes for a while.
…or so I thought.
After riding it for a day, I decided to move it back a little.
Tweak
Rather than drilling new screw holes, I simply moved it back.
It’s about a fist’s width behind the seat.
It feels good now.
Epilogue
When I was riding, I heard a squeaking noise coming from the box, or when I leaned on it and it felt like it moved slightly, so the screws were loose and I had to retighten them.
Other than that, it’s fixed in place properly with no issues.
